Mark J. Robertson

Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary

Mark J. Robertson serves as CNA’s Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. As General Counsel, he provides legal advice to CNA leadership and staff, as well as the CNA Board of Trustees, on matters including corporate law and governance, government contracts, commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, and ethics. He also oversees government affairs and serves as the Corporate Secretary to the Board of Trustees.

Prior to joining CNA, Robertson served as a managing partner at Robertson & Anderson PLLC in Alexandria, Virginia. He has over 25 years of experience representing corporations, advising boards and executives, directing legal operations, building teams, and leading organizations. In addition to positions with international law firms based in New York and Washington, D.C., Mr. Robertson has held senior positions in government, including with the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, and Department of Justice.  At the Department of Homeland Security, he served as Associate General Counsel for Science and Technology and Chief of Staff to the General Counsel. In that role, he managed over 1,500 attorneys throughout the department and provided legal and policy guidance to senior leaders.

Robertson earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. For nearly 10 years, he served as an adjunct professor at The George Washington University Law School.
