Serving the Community
CNA employees are dedicated to making a difference in the community, committing time, energy and treasure that demonstrates what it means to give back. Since relocating to Arlington in 2015, CEO Katherine McGrady asked CNA’s volunteer coordinators to focus on organizations in Arlington because she believes that being a good corporate neighbor is integral to CNA’s mission.
Charitable activities include clothing and food drives, book sales, raffles, winter coat drives, disaster relief work, art sales, drives to collect school supplies, and holiday gift drives. Employees also serve as mentors to students in the local schools and volunteer at shelters.
COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN
CNA has participated in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) with the Department of the Navy for 50 years! The campaign runs from October through January every year. CNA hosts a series of fun events for employees throughout the campaign to highlight charitable organizations and generate donations.
CNA has reached its target goal every year and in recent years has raised over $100,000 from employee donations. CFC supports a wide range of organizations and foundations; employees choose which charity they wish to support from hundreds of participating national and local charities.
CNA COMMUNITY ACTION NETWORK
The CNA Community Action Network (CCAN), formerly the Educational and Charitable Fund Committee (ECFC), is a nonprofit organization established by CNA in 1992 that encourages employees to support charities and to donate their time in the service of others. It organizes events to raise money for charities, conducts donation drives, and gives employees opportunities to volunteer in the community.
The CCAN also leads CNA in responding to national tragedies. Deeply touched by the killing of George Floyd, the ECFC identified several charities dedicated to social justice and organized a campaign that raised thousands of dollars for four charities – Offender Aid and Restoration (OAR), Sasha Bruce Youthwork, Homeless Children’s Playtime Project, and the Equal justice Initiative (EJI).
