Operations Evaluation Group

The Operations Evaluation Group (OEG) oversees CNA’s Field Program and exercise support. The Field Program is unique among independent military research organizations, deploying analysts long-term to commands around the world. CNA exercise support covers nearly every major naval exercise, gathering data on-site and developing reconstructions and analyses.

Field Program

CNA’s Field Program assigns analysts for two to three years to billets ranging from aircraft carrier strike groups and Marine expeditionary forces to the U.S. Pacific Command. Read the stories of these field representatives from across the globe.

Three Questions: Northern Edge Exercise

Dr. Mallory Ladd, a specialist in Arctic maritime operations, describes her experiences in Northern Edge 2019. This joint exercise between the Navy and Air Force was held in the Gulf of Alaska.

Three Questions: Carrier Strike Group One

As part of the CNA Field Program, Dr. Nolan Noble deployed on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson for 11 months. He says that aboard ship, he could “live, see, and breathe” the context for his data analyses.

CNA Deploys 50 Analysts to Support the Navy’s Large-Scale Exercise

CNA analysts took the lead in gathering and synthesizing data to assess distributed maritime operations in the Navy’s Large-Scale Exercise 2021. Fifty analysts supported multiple fleets across 17 time zones.

Analysis in Combat — Desert Storm

CNA’s Operations Evaluation Group has supported every conflict involving the Navy or Marines since World War II. Over the five months of Desert Shield and Desert Storm, 22 CNA field representatives deployed with their commands to the Middle East. These are their stories.
