Prasith Baccam, Ph.D.
Prasith "Sid" Baccam is an expert in modeling and simulation, emerging technologies, and public health. He has supported federal agencies such as the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as well as state and local government and public health agencies.
In support of HHS, Baccam developed medical consequence models for biological agents and emerging infectious diseases, including pandemic influenza and COVID-19. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was featured in a Time magazine article and coauthored a New York Times op-ed on vaccination efforts. He has applied modeling and simulation expertise to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats. He has also led efforts to accelerate simulations and algorithms using graphics processing units and has experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning as well as large language models.
Baccam received his Ph.D. in applied mathematics and immunobiology from Iowa State University. He holds a Master of Science in applied mathematics from Marquette University and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Drake University.
