Patrick deGategno
Patrick deGategno specializes in the military, security and foreign affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). His research focuses on topics such as Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) modernization, reforms, posture and operations; U.S.-PRC military relations and strategic messaging; and PRC global defense and security engagement activities.
DeGategno served as CNA’s first scientific analyst to the Office of Global Integration and Engagement – China Branch in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. He has also advised the U.S. Navy and supported U.S. strategic messaging objectives in interactions with the PLA during two iterations of Rim of the Pacific, a U.S.-led multilateral naval exercise.
DeGategno holds a master’s degree in Asian studies from the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs and a bachelor’s degree in cultural studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
