Steve S. Lee is an expert in fleet training across the Optimized Fleet Response Plan cycle, force readiness, and combat effectiveness assessment. He is currently the CNA field representative for Commander, Naval Surface Forces, Pacific, and recently completed a three-year field assignment with Carrier Strike Group FIFTEEN. He has provided underway exercise support for over a dozen Composite Training Unit Exercises, multiple Fleet Battle Problems, the Large Scale Exercise, and Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training.

Recent projects Lee has directed or contributed to include assessing the effectiveness of shipboard sailor instruction under a live, virtual, and constructive training environment; measuring amphibious combat operations efficiency; identifying inefficiencies in basic phase training; and career pathways among warship commanding officers. Earlier work for CNA’s Institute for Public Research included a project he led to assess the measurement accuracy of teacher and principal effectiveness scores in Maryland public schools.

Lee holds a PhD in sociology from Vanderbilt, a Master of Science in applied sociology from Clemson University, and a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from James Madison University.
