Race/Ethnicity. The distribution of race/ethnicity by gender for FY 1998 USCG and overall DoD Active Component
enlisted members along with the applicable civilian comparison group is shown in Table 8.3. Relative to the comparable civilian population, the USCG enlisted force was slightly more likely to be White (74 and 71
percent, respectively) and slightly less likely to be Black (8 and 12 percent, respectively). Hispanics were underrepresented in DoD (8 percent), as a whole, but in the USCG enlisted force Hispanics (13 percent)
were proportional to the civilian comparison group (13 percent).
